Zurich, 1933 — Tepoztlán, Morelos, 2026. He studied painting and graphic design at the Zurich Kunstgewerbeschule between 1947 and 1952 with Johannes Itten, formerly of the Bauhaus, and first exhibited in Switzerland in 1956. He reached Mexico in 1957 along the Pan-American Highway and that same year showed at the Galería Antonio Souza; he later studied at the Universidad Iberoamericana and metal engraving with Guillermo Silva Santamaría. He belonged to the Generación de la Ruptura, with Cuevas, Felguérez, Lilia Carrillo, García Ponce and Vicente Rojo, and became a Mexican citizen in 1980. The Museo de Arte Moderno gave him a retrospective in 1978 and the Palacio de Bellas Artes another in 1989; the Museo Nacional de la Estampa gathered fifty-eight of his prints in 2021. He received the Medalla Bellas Artes in 2014.
