Mexico City, 1902 – 1969. He studied at the Academia de San Carlos and attended the Open-Air Painting School of Chimalistac, founded by Alfredo Ramos Martínez. He belonged to the Stridentist group and in 1937 took part in founding the Taller de Gráfica Popular. In 1952 the World Peace Council awarded him the International Peace Prize. Between 1948 and 1966 he worked with the cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa on seven films, among them «Río Escondido»
