Clayton Green, Lancashire, 1917 — Mexico City, 2011. She formed herself alongside Max Ernst and the surrealist circles of France and New York; after the war and a confinement in Santander she married the diplomat Renato Leduc in Lisbon and reached Mexico in 1942, where she lived the rest of her life. She painted some two hundred canvases and sixty-eight sculptures, besides lithographs, textiles and stage designs, and wrote «The Hearing Trumpet», «The House of Fear» and «La invención del mole». In 1963 she made the mural «El mundo mágico de los mayas», now in the Museo Nacional de Antropología. The Museo de Arte Moderno, Tate and the Museo Leonora Carrington in San Luis Potosí hold her work. In 2005 she received Mexico’s Premio Nacional de Ciencias y Artes and the Medalla Bellas Artes.
