Cuernavaca, Morelos, 1937 — Cuernavaca, 2020. He trained at his city’s Instituto Regional de Bellas Artes and taught at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos. His landscapes became popular in the 1970s, when the match company La Central printed them on the backs of matchboxes and they entered thousands of Mexican homes. He took part in more than two hundred exhibitions in Mexico, the United States, Europe, South America and Australia. In 2005 he painted the mural of José María Morelos y Pavón in the Governors’ Hall of the Morelos state palace, and held posts in the state’s cultural administration. In 2025 the Morelos government marked the fifth anniversary of his death and announced support for the conservation of his work.
