Born in Mexico City in 1947. He studied visual arts at the UNAM’s Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas from 1971, and since 1973 has taught visual education and painting there; he has served as technical adviser and head of colleges at what is now the Faculty of Arts and Design. His first solo show was held at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in 1976. The Museo Amparo in Puebla devoted «Del deseo y la memoria» to him in 1995 and «Propuestas cardinales como preludio del siglo XXI» in 2001, and MARCO in Monterrey «Inesperada extrañeza», curated by Guillermo Sepúlveda. He has exhibited in Chicago, Paris, Caracas, New York, Los Angeles and Berlin, and held FONCA fellowships in 1990 and from 1993 to 2000.
