Orba, Alicante, 1878 — Mexico City, 1950. The fourth of seven children, after his father’s early death he worked in a fan-painting workshop and then trained at the San Carlos academy in Valencia; the gold medal at the 1909 Regional Exhibition won him a scholarship to study in Italy. He devoted almost all his work to bullfighting: posters, oils and illustrations for books and magazines, and from 1912 he was a fair poster artist for the Ortega lithographic press in Valencia. He exhibited in Madrid, Bilbao, Paris, Marseille, New York, Philadelphia, Caracas and Mexico. He travelled to Mexico in 1933 and settled there permanently the following year. He published «Impresiones del natural» (1931) and «Mi tauromaquia» (1943). The Bullfighting Museum at Las Ventas holds his «Pase de las flores», of 1934.
